It's meant to be an Opel Ascona 400 replica, but it's not a very close one - the wheelarch flares look quite a bit too small to me. The Ascona 400 was GM Europe's rally car in the early 1980's, Walter Rohrl used one to win the 1982 World Championship. The original had a 2.4 liter 4 cyl, producing about 250bhp. When the drivetrain was updated a bit and put into the Manta to make the Manta 400, it got to about 275 bhp, but that was about it. I'm sure with the SAAB unit in there, it's got a lot more power at the rear wheels than any Works Ascona ever had! It also weighs only about 2,600 lbs 'dry', so it must fly. I'd imagine mating the BMW/ZF transmission to the SAAB engine must have been a bear. But, talk about a sleeper!
