trying to compare dyno #'s from different test sessions(not to mention different dyno types) can be useless on intercooled turbo cars- unless everybody uses the Dodge "heatsoak the intercooler" method. But actual road test numbers are more telling. 1/4 mile trap speeds between the Viggen and WRX are separated by 2mph or less. At approximately the same vehicle weight, even a full 2mph difference is less than 20hp. In my mind, that works out to less than what the Subaru should give up in drivetrain losses to the Saab-those damn Subaru systems LOVE to suck up the power. So the test numbers pretty much back up Subaru's claim of 227 crank bhp. And yup, I've driven many WRX's(raced against quite a few as well), and nope, they really don't feel that fast. There's all that damn lag (8:1 compression???- what year is this- 1977??), and no big kick from the turbo when you do get boost. My '88 9kt feels way faster even when it's sick (most of the time), but the radar gun doesn't lie (just the cop who aims it!), and I know it isn't. A Viggen should have a power advantage over a WRX, but in a racing situation (assuming speeds weren't much over 120mph) to say that it would leave the Subie like it was standing still seems a good bit overstated.
