and say you thought it included all taxes if you decide you want to make noise about the shoddy repairs. unfortunately if it's not someone you know, and they are doing jobs under table, not a surprise they taking that attitude :-(.

however, having said that, you do have the recourse of making noise, saying they didn't do job properly, and when they say "well you didnt pay tax" you can come back with "why not? that's illegal for you to NOT charge me tax isn't it? i thought the tax was included in the price you charged me. let me ask the local irs office about that for you" if they then say "oh it did include tax" then ask them for a receipt for the work showing you paid tax.

it may not get you anything other than the perverse pleasure of seeing them in hot water with the irs, but it will at least prevent others from getting screwed like is happening to you. mark :-)
