The APC needs continuity from the pressure sensor, yes. A trick to bypassing the pressure reading is to connect the two leads. Without that continuity the APC won't close the solenoid upon start-up and will revert to base boost. Actually, when I've disconnected the pressure sensor lead with the engine running the solenoid clicks continuously. I have an 82, so perhaps that's what the early version does. I don't know what happens if you disconnect the knock detector since I've never done that. Perhaps it does the same thing, based on requiring continuity. Only way I've read about voiding the knock detector is to remove it from the engine block, wire intact, and wrap it in a towel so it can't "hear."
