Cheesy "rice" accessories come from two places, Luxury sport models and Real race machines. Often they are based in function...large adjustable wings, huge wheels to stick dinner plate sized brakes behind, even lowering comes from racing. Most of these mods offer little or no function on the street cars that they reside on.
Where does the loud BOV's come in? WRC. The only form of racing that I can sit down and watch for any extended bit of time. The sounds of WRC are of course gravel, high strung small turbo engines, and loud "pppPFFFFFTT" from BOV's. To me the sound is associated with excitment and 3 years after opening up my filter to give my 9KT a nice woosh, I still nail it just to hear that noise.
