Sorry for the late response. I didn't see your initial post. Yes, I removed that old stock IC. What you saw in that shot was the initial fitting of the 9K IC onto the front. I hadn't gotten around to routing the piping at that time, so kept the old IC in place since I had to drive around for another week while I fashioned the new end tank ports. The car is an 82, the initial APC system car with the venerable 8V H engine. When that engine died I transplanted an 86 16V into that car a few months before the FMIC work. As far as the IC seal goes - I kept the original end tanks except for the in and out ports, which as you can see in the pics were cut off and refashioned with fiberglass. I used a solid layering of JB Weld everywhere the custom fiberglass ports connected to the original end tank plastic. JB was the ideal bond between the two. Then I glassed over those seams with several layers for added strength. Given the just above stock boost levels I want from this engine, the seal works fine, based on my boost guage, which pushes past 8 psi without fail whenever I want.
