Hi,
am building up the next engine for my 85 900T...I have a mint 2.1L head/manifold (75K), an 87 900T block, striped which I am going to use with new piston rings and bearings all ready to go, (110K in very good shape, but will be light honed before I go any further. I also have a 94 2.3L non-turbo NG900 block and short head which I cannot use on the 87 block without mods to the timing cover which I'm not going to do.
Question is if I should use the 94 pistons which are the same bore as the old 2.0L but are high compression in my rebuild or stick with the 87 low compression turbo pistons that block came with. I will reuse my std 85 turbocharger which is still good and 24lb blue series injectors I bought from spg9. Am also using a MBC otherwise stock. Am looking for more torque more than high boost...currently running up to 12psi on my original 85 setup. So can I use those 94 pistons or will it just ping itself to death under moderate boost. Anyone else out there built up an earlier turbo high compression engine? Is this doable or really not that great an idea?
