Polishing helps reduce the amount of deposits that can stick, so thats a good idea, ditto for the combustion chamber. Any spark plug theads that are exposed should be cut away as to not have these exposed as sharp edges that could be hot spots - maybe more of an issue with iron. Aluminum can be porous, so you want to clean the polished metal with water/soap and solvents until a clean white cloth stays that way. Then you know all traces of abrasive are removed. With the pistons, once the rings are on or rods, polishing residue can get into things that are hard to clean. -So you need to deal with that issue.-
Polishing is done on high compression engines. And a turbo engine certainly is high compression when on boost. polishing reduces the deposit layer thicknesses that form and that reduces hot spots that create octane issues.
Try cleaning the pistons with solvent and a clean white cloth to eval how clean they are as recieved. At least that residue would not have traces of abrasives.
And given that aluminum is porous, I would wipe with some systhetic oil to know whats in the pores first.
How to polish? I don't know. Some of the polishing compound 'bars' that you rub on a buffing wheel can leave a waxy deposit on the metal and in the pores. That is why I suggested a solvent cleanup. Many pastes are oily.
