9000 transmission build

I am looking at having to replace my 1995 5-spd for the second time in 3 years. The original transmission failed at 125K and my Erikson rebuild is now failing at 180K. I love my Saab but doing a $2500 transmission replacement every 2 years is borderline insane.
I would like to look into rebuilding one of these and upgrading some areas.
Judging from the sounds the current box is making, I think the pinion/final drive bearings might like an upgrade.
Also considering cryo treating all gears and shafts and perhaps the case. Some cryo sites list treating the full, assembled transmission. I don't like that idea for differential thermal contraction. Any thoughts?
Any other input on building a good reliable saab transmission would be appreciated.
Does one need to replace everything in the box or just bits and pieces that are visibly worn?
Thanks,
Chris
