I mean, it's the heat that makes the turbo spin faster. It's the gas turbine principle. The hotter the gas, the more work is done. It's the reason why if you rev your engine to redline (with gear in neutral)you won't achieve max boost because the exhaust gases are not hot enough. When the engine is loaded (car accelerating) the engine is working harder, producing more heat thus enabling the turbo to spin faster, thus more boost. You are right about the cast iron retaining heat better.
