My 89' SPG with rebuilt motor, 2.1 head, copper head gastket, o ringed block and 83' 900 Turbo pistons. I have a 3.0 FPR 24# injectors, Eclpise IC. I am not getting the Fuel economy that I would expect. None of these mods with the exception of the lower compression should cause a drop in MPG. Under very normal freeway driving at 75MPH I am getting a best of 21-24 and much worse with an occasion trip up to 22PSI. However sometimes I get 28-30MPG so somthing is intermitent. I put a new O2 sensor in it, that seemed to help it run better overall. I just checked my timing at it was at 15BTDC at idle. I also have bent back the stopper on the Vacccum advance to get more retard under boost.
One thing I have noticed it is doing after I installed a better ground wire on the alternator is that when it starts on cold mornings lets say 45 or less here in CA. The engine will instantly rev up to 2000rpm and stay there
till the motor is a little warm. It does drop to 1500 but this leads me to think that it is related to the bad MPG. I was thinking maying the coolant temp sensor for the computer? Any way to test this?
I do have the "7" gearing in this car, I would love to get my hands on the rare "8" that give a .72 final drive. Right now I am doing 3500 at 84MPH I think this is too high. so if anyone has the .72 final drive gears let me know!!
any wisdom is welcome.
