something interesting\
the spider gears in the 4 speed arent rite for the phantom grip & they cant be used from the 5 speed :-(
but the 4 speed ring gear fits onto the 5 speed ring gear carier & the holes in the ring gear are located corectly th only hitch is that the 4 speed uses 8mm 1.25 thread pitch bolts to hold the ring gear to the carier & the 5 speed uses 10mm 1.0 thread pitch bolts
so Im going to re thread the holes in the 4 speed ring gear to accept the larger bolts so I can bolt it to the 5 speed carier I already bolted the 4 speed ring gear to the 5 speed carier to see if seting up the backlash would be a problem & it wont :-) it will work great :-) the 5 speed spider gears are stronger as well so this will work out great
this 4 speed was definatly rebuilt the sideplate was defective & leaking where the dipstick boss was so it got ran low on oil & being as how the pinion bearings are heavily loaded & high in the trans I think this is why they went bad everything else in there is perfect though but its getting new countershaft bearings & pinion bearings
the pinion housing on the 4 speed is steel not aluminum so Ill bet its less likeley to to flex so thats gotta be good
Ill post pics tomarrow of whats going on
take care
