It was recently suggested to post this here in the performance section, as you guys are more familiar with some of the specific rebuild costs.

Ok, I am somewhat embarrased to say that now that I have my engine out, I am just now really condisdering taking it apart and doing a rebuild. It looked like it would be $1000 or more to do the rebuild before I started, so I settled on replacing all gaskets so I can drive my 1990 SPG daily.

Now that I have spent several hundred dollars on new gaskets, pumps, etc I am really considering rebuilding the engine. My good friend is a certified volvo mechanic so i have him to help me with machining, etc. How much really is it going to cost me to do the rebuild if I do it all myself? Basically I'm asking how much in parts is it going to cost? I have done several searches but I have not found the specific details reguarding costs. I appreciate your time and input.

Okay here are some of the costs I have found:

79.00 oil punp

279.00 rebuild kit (Swedish dynamics)

155.00 clutch and pressure plate

19.00 clutch release bearing

$532 subtotal

64.90 – harmonic balancer

279.00 – hydraulic lifters

34.90 – timing chain endless Saab

50.00 chain guide

66.90 – chain tensioner

$1027.70

41.00 – knock sensor

6.99 - Coolant temp gauge sensor

11.23 – Water temp sensor

15.00 – headgasket

14.00 – valve cover gasket

0.99 – PCV bushing nipple

----

$1100 +

Okay I threw in hydraulic lifters but honestly.. mine are fine and do not tick. I threw that in to get an approximate cost for rebuilding the head. What have I forgotten, or what kind of non-part-costs should I consider?

Thank you very much for you time on reading this posts guys.
