....we are in the real world. Stresses do occur and tortion does occur. The rubber in the bushings allow at least 8 axes of motion, but will not entirely eliminate stresses on the steel. Braking and reversing and accelerating and turning apply torsional changes, as do pot-hole impacts, etc. The proof is that the units fail in the first place, making us examine your statements. Damien's statements about stress risors are bang on, especially stresses being multiplied at the area where Soulman's welds end off. That is why when you box a cars fram, you box the whole frame, and not just sections. Rust is less of a consideration for me, as these cars are lasting 20+ years in Atlantic climates and areas.

I am uncomfortable with Soulman's lack of magnafluxing. When I rebuild an engine, I magnaflux the crap out of all ferous parts. Why waste time on parts and an expensive rebuild if the initial building blocks are crappy and not worth the effort. Welding bad control arms will expand any cracks that are there. It does not "anneal them", unless they are directly in the line of the arc.

I am sure Soulman spent a lot of time and effort on this project and I don't mean to insult him or rain on his parade, but just because we pour our hard earned time and money into a project does not mean the planning and understanding can be eliminated. I wish him well, and I hope the stuff he did holds up. It looks great on a JPEG, but what would a road rally team do?

I just want to make sure I don't blow out an axle while driving "in excess of prudence". I almost want to weld up my own units out of tubular steel. I worry about weld joints though, as weld too long and screw up the metal characteristics, and weld too short, and the characteristics are also no good. I am not a skilled welder, and I don't want to spend thousands on fabricating new parts. The problem is that do nothing and the unit WILL fail.
