After talking to Jak (thanks again BTW) I think I need to do a few tests as soon as she's back on the road. The weird thing was, I really wasn't sure how my boost got so high in the first place! I turned up my wastegate last winter (5.5ish) and this miracle boost came on, deep into the red from what was barely peeking into the red zone before.
I got scared, like I didn't want to blow my engine, so I turned the wastegate back down. Big boost still remained. I wrecked the car last summer, and one of the things I replaced was the solenoid. So I don't think that's the problem.
The thing that worried me was, a few weeks ago I felt I had too much high-rpm boost and not enough low-end, so I decided to turn the APC pots down (was at redbox specs). BUT THERE WAS NO CHANGE! All of that boost was still there, even after I turned both pots waaay down, which made me think that my APC wasn't doing its job... scary.
At present I'm guessing it might be the wires going into the solenoid (which look like they get pretty hot, and brittle) or maybe a connection within the APC came loose (a bad solder job? nahttp://wwww....)
So as of right now I need to double check the solenoid (which I think is fine), the connection to it, and then the APC itself. I checked the wastegate by hand, it could move back and forth (not like it was stuck closed or anything...) Maybe I'm paranoid, but the last thing I want is a toasted engine...!
What kind of things are you experiencing, Trevor?
Tranny should be done in a week or two... man, this is my second one! Bad pinion bearing, so we're rebuilding it instead of throwin' down for a new one.
PS, fell into a free small pull fan... any tips on a DIY ic fan? :)
