Mark,
Thank you for the follow up.
We have been working on the header options for about 7 years and counting but, unfortunately, most of the standard gauge stainless steel pipe tends to crack at weld points on all of the prototypes tested (we have attempted to make our own and have tried over a dozen different designs for 900 and 9000). This tends to be a common factor with any turbo header as thermal expansion is inevitable.
The Germans feel that they can eliminate our problems by employing a 10-12 gauge stainless steel. Since this is difficult to work with, the pipe is heated to 1200 degrees F prior to bending (I would hate to be the one bending these pipes!). I personally arrived back from Germany last month and was amazed at the longevity that they have been experiencing with these bent and welded headers.
I have brought a few samples with me and will let you know how things progress during testing.
Best Regards for the weekend,
Gary at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
