I used to own an 88 wrangler with the 258 engine. Have done mods to my mule, 88 wrangler with the 258 engine (love that torque at 4H and first gear) and a beefed-up torqueflite 904. But, I did the math and decided that the engine rebuild with the MOPAR F/I retro-fit was worth it. But, I did not go for the rebuild and decided to sell it since I want a change of pace. A good friend of mine with a 9000 with turbo did not maintain the scheduled maintenance, problems showed up and eventually decided to dump the SAAB. Tragic!!
Don't know if this would help but have you done the math to see if you can encumber the expenses related to your 9000? And if you buy the JEEP, can you bear the related expenses should it be mods or scheduled maintenance. For me, I budget at least 2k for the SAAB. SAABs are high maintenance in so far as the scheduled maintenance has to be followed down to the T.
I don't know if you are the original owner or not. If not, then that would make a difference in terms of the original owner may not have done the things that are needed to the car - so the problems are now showing-up. If you are mechanically inclined, then you can DIY and keep the SAAB.
good luck!
