Only manual transmission aero models have the larger td04 turbo. Most 9000's have a t25 which is no bigger than the turbo on the 900/9-3's. The biggest difference coms from the extra displacement of the 2.3 liter and the chasis that not only puts a higher percentage of power to the ground, but is very good at dealing with the low end torque of the 2.3. An 2.0 with a t25 will make 185 hp and about 200tq where as the 2.3 with make 200hp and 244ftlbs, with a lower torque peak. The 91-92 9000T were particularly fast due to very low gearing.
But this is all stock vs stock when it comes to tuning 2.0 has a lot of potential an can make high hp better than the torque monster that is the 2.3. If you look at two of the fastest saabs out there, one uses a factroy 2.5liter short block, the other uses a 2.0. In the end they make about the same amount of hp.
