The testing specs are under the rules or laws section. The law states that any aftermarket exhaust has to be under 95dB as per the standard SAE test. However, if it is an obvious aftermarket exhaust, and it is a situation where you can't just take it somewhere else then you need to find an inspection station that has a state certified sound checker dude so he can sign off on it and provide you with the proper paperwork. These are still far and few between, where do you live?? There used to be a list at http://www.maine-street.com but the site got destroyed by that PHP virus a while back, email Nick (his email is still on the site) he might know, also try searching google there is a organization in Maine that is working to change the auto laws, I just can't remember who they are, maybe try contacting f1 dyno is Portland http://www.f1dyno.com they might know. The only place that I can remember is VIP in Ellsworth, but there are others in southern maine.

Even though this law exists, you used to not be allowed aftermarket exhausts, IMO the easiest way is just to find a shop that will inspect it.

The main problem is, the state police used to be in charge of policing the inspection people, however in recent years the state has hired a private company that is now in charge of inspection policing stuff, and they have been going around pulling inspection permits and getting people in trouble and such so alot of places have gotten really tight about inspection . The real problem is that the state inspection laws are constantly changing and poorly written, so much so it is possible to fail a new car if you wanted.

hope this helps.
