FORGE Diverter Valve in a 1997 9000 Aero Posted by AeroSmith [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Howdy y'all.
I just performed a very simple mod to my 1997 9000 Aero 5spd. I installed a Forge Diverter (Dump) Valve in place of the stock Bosch unit. It was really easy to do by myself with only a screwdriver.
As you all know the Diverter Valve is the valve between the pipe going from the turbo to the throttle body and the pipe going from the air filter box to the turbo. We're all familiar with the <psshht> sound we hear when the clutch is popped under full boost. That's the DV equalizing the pressure on each side of the turbo when the throttle closes. Well with the Forge DV the sound is now a very sharp and quick <tsing>. It's almost like ringing a bell. But the real difference is that the valve is much more heavy duty (steel vs. plastic). It also performs its task much more quickly than the stock unit. That means boost comes on a fraction of a second more quickly when you floor it in the next gear. Finally, it's fully servicable and all the parts (spring, plunger, o rings) can be replaced. It'll be that last Dump Valve you ever own. Neat thing: two of them fit my Audi allroad's 2.7TT.
