...are the computer/engine management Saab used. It's based upon the ubiquitous Motorola 68XXX 32-bit microprocessor. It differs from later versions, used on the 9-5, and Viggens called the T7, in that it uses the MAP sensor and the intake air temperature sensor to calculate the mass of air and then adds the fuel accordingly. Like the T7, it uses the spark plugs as sensors to determine if the engine knocks, but unlike the T7 it has programmed boost values that are preset. Essentially, it's not quite as sophisticated or state-of-the-art as the T7, but is easier to tune and will accept exhaust and intake volumetric improvements without having to reconfigure the software. Nowadays, Saab uses a newer control system, called the T8. Basically, all Trionics are similar in that they use the spark plugs as sensors and the later ones increase the number of variables that are being 'sensed'.
