A friend of a friend has a 93ish honda civic. The owner of this Civic claims that his car does the quarter mile in high 12's. I asked him about his mods. He says that he has dropped a bigger 4 cylinder engine in (i.e. bored out); did camshaft work; bigger air filter; bigger exhaust; and had the ECM modified which puts the car around 300 hp. He does not have a turbo, supercharger; and/or nos in the car at all. Based on this info, I think he is full of huey! From what I gather, guys who tune their Saabs to around 300 hp do the 1/4 mile in high 13's. Admittedly the civic is lighter then a Saab and probably will be quicker of the line. But a 300 hp civic shaving an additional second off the quarter mile time (i.e. high 12's) compared to a nicely tuned Saab that runs about 300 ponies (which does the 1/4 mile in about 13.8 seconds) seems a little bit unreal. Is this Civic owner leaking crap out of his mouth and ears, or is there some merit to his claim?
Please advice.
