Installed jak's chip in my 88 spg. Here's What i think: The install-It's easy enough getting to the ecu. Taking the ceover off the ecu is pretty easy as well. Once that's off you just slide out the board. I used a small screw driver to pull old chip out which worked fine. New chip just presses in place. Installed cover and plugged it back into harness. Car started right up. Mounted ecu in it's place, filled car up with crappy Ca. 91 octane (2.79/gal) and went for a ride. My car is an 88 spg w\210,000 miles on the org. engine and turbo. Tranny was replaced 160,000 miles ago. Car has custom IC pipes, K&N filter, Talon IC, water injection, 30 lb injectors balenced from spg9, msd btm w\dawes device, JT DP w\3 inch exhaust and dyno max muffler., magnecore wires, rrfpr, blah, blah.....
Back to the chip.. I kept the rrfpr on the car which is set to 29 psi at idle. Oh yeaa the chip, well it works great! The car is so smooth through-out the rpm range. I mean it's like driving a new car. I can't belive how well to drives. There is not hesitation and the power band feels like a nice steady pull. Before the car was kind of herky jerky through the rpm's. The car drives around town better, revs better and last but not least feels faster. Yeas, it's faster. When you get on it now it's so smooth I just can't beleive it(did I say that before?) :) I think I may be losing a tad bit of power in the mid to top end due to the RRFPR. I know jak burned these using a 3.0 bar. But with my car's rrfpr set so low at idle, I'm so sure it's affecting the mid range at all. But I have a 3.0 on order and will post if it changes anything at all.
I have not experienced any probs. with this chip like mentioned below in another post. So my 2 cents are???? If you have a car like mine or like the one jak burned this chip for, pay the money and get one. It's well worth it and you will see what I mean the first time you drive your car around town.
Thanks Jak
