Hi Erik
I have a magnaflow high flow cat, which is similar to your catco, and it do developed a rattle after a few years. I retightened all the clamps and welded the pipe before and after the cat and that quieted it down quiet a bit on decel, but it seems to either be the heatshield on the cat itself or, like you said, something on the interior. I really don't have any idea - you can always run a test pipe until its emissions time (depending on your state laws). Besides, it better off to be caught without one than with a gutted one - pretty hefty fines (in CT anyway) for that. Ultimately, if you're responsible enough to have the cat on there in the first place, I recommend you just doubel check that everything is tight and turn the radio up another notch :)
Hope that helps a little!
