I would get the GT 28rs or if you can swing it a GT2871r so you can use a external wg :) The GT turbo's are much more advanced in their design then the mitsu's & will spool up a lot faster.
I use the GT3071r on my SPG & I have full boost at 4K RPM's & the turbo is VERY responsive when above 4K. The turbo I have is rated at 500 HP & I have a few other things I am going to try to hopefully reduce where the turbo kicks in.
I would also consider talking to whatever ECU tuner you are going with so you can be sure they have a ECU for whatever turbo you are choosing. They also mught have some good input for you about reliability
