Hello dan!
my friends 92 9kt left of stranded and puzzled on the side of the road one day, and we noticed two of his intake grommets were popped out.
We immediately searched for things to fix it with in our aresnal of junk in the car, and we came across some cheaper than 99 cent metal band clamps, the kind with the screw tightener system built onto them, for dryer vent type home repair stuff, ya know?
We put the clamp around the intake manifold so that when you tightened the clap all the way, it would hold the top of the grommet into the manifold, by squeezing the manifold on the opposite side.
I'll get a picture for you somehow if that's too hard to imagine...
but in any case, this quick side of the road fix has lasted more than 6 months now, and while it's not the most flashy fix, it was extremely cheap and easy.
GM suggesting wire will work the same.
