A SMBC will improve torque in the lower gears, and improve spoolup, especially in vehicles with manual gear boxes*. The SMBC is cheap, but not something that makes warrany issues go away. But you can remove it very quickly and easily before dealer services.
* The 5 spd automatics 2002+ get on boost much faster than the 5 spd manual transmissions as the torque converter 'slip' allows for gas volumes to build very rapidly.
A low restriction air filter might be a safe way to go. And reworking the intake snorkle end up behind the grill can help a bit. It can be post formed by heating and opening its mouth. A low restriction air filter also has a much greater effect when used in a SMBC application were the turbo responds at its native rate instead of with controller induced boost lag.
BCPR7ES plugs can yield more power in higher power applications, cheaper in the long run too if you change your own.
Keep your injectors clean (Techron Concentrate) and you need to use premium fuels to get rated HP. Avoid fuels labels as high or 10% ethanol if possible.
Some dealers install staged performance upgrades and they are not out to screw you on the warranty.
