enlarging intercooler piping... any benefits? Posted by Matt D [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have an abbott style larger diameter intercooler hardpipe for my 9000 aero, and i've always wondered if it really makes any difference in performance... first because the intercooler outlet pipe that goes to the turbo is still the stock smaller diameter, and second because the turbo compresser itself is constant as well unless i buy a bigger turbo... so besides that obvious second hurdle... would custom fabricating that L shaped outlet pipe to be bigger and match the size of the larger inlet pipe make any significant kind of improvement in airflow? Id have to get a silicone tubing to connect from the new larger pipe to the turbo, so essentially at that point the air would be restricted to that smaller flow once again... but would opening it up for that flow before the turbo to match the pipe already on the other side improve anything? Any gain would be somewhat exagerated (im hoping) because of the open air filter, 3 " JT, and stage 3 SQR im running, so any difference would be worth it to me.
