5 speed trans oil cooler thoughts/Qs Posted by bryan [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I am going to be installing a trans cooler into my 5speed. I am looking to monitor temp and wondered: can i use the same temperature sender that is used for engine oil temp? then, also, can i install a switch so the gauge in the car can read both temps depending by using the switch to control which temperature is displayed.
i want to use the classic looking needle gauges.
If previous posts indicating that trans oil temps can get into the 300-500 degree range, i don't see how a 10w-30 oil can do it's job, so i am really intrigued by the possibility of lowintg temps to equal the engine temp. sometihing tells me this may have better consequences on the strenght of the tranny than what it looks like on the surface.
does anyone know of a good electic oil pump supplier? i've noticed people using a bosch fuel pump, but i would like to use a pump that was designed for a fluid with the viscosity of an oil. I haven't found one yet.
Also, seems like installing one adds capacity to the oil system. does anyone have experience or kinowledge on whether this is the case (more volume in the total trans oil system w/ the cooler installed)
I did find this link that looks like some nice equipment, check it out if you're thinking about doing transmission oil cooling-

i suspect the pump is major bucks. so might be the other parts, but they look to be A1 quality.
