Don,
Hope all's well!
The 1985 model year used an APC control unit unique to this year (black box mounted under the rear seat) and there are certain limitations to updating these pcbs. A common option is to wire in a 1986 and up harness connector into the rear seat location and employ a 1986 and up APC control unit. Since the APC signal input is very similar it would require that you follow color codes between wiring diag. and would take a few butt connectors to accomplish.
The new style 1986 and up control units should allow for self modification (follow this BB for instructions) up to 14-15 psi with some consistency.
Our 1985 control units can render a 16-18 psi charge pressure while the 1986 and up is targeting closer to 22-24+ psi.
Best of luck and regards,
GSK at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
