I had and repainted an 88 SPG. The original owner had an accident and the
left rear quarter panel had been replaced. It had sheet metal screws. Factory
panels had threaded inserts and screws. If you can, get specs on hole locations
or if you can find an spg with panels off, lay tracing paper on the car, lining up
with a body line or reference point. Mark the whole locations and transfer to your
car. Spacing is important. Little engagement on tracks so they need to be tight.
You install SPG panel on top rail and push and beat with your palm to get it to
pop onto bottom rail. Depending on year, '87 0r '88 on I think, the bumpers engage
the front and back sections. If the bumpers are off you might be able to slide
on to the rails. Doors can slide on. The section to the rear of front wheels has
a sheet metal strap which is screwed to the bottom of the car. If you need adjustment, after you drill holes, you can use a round file to slot the hole in rail.
Use a star type lock washer. Stainless srews and washers wound be best. Boat store is a good source when you just need a few.
Wheel Arches have little U shaped clips which take little sheet metal screws on the inside. Coat the screws with grease or non hardening under coating, They are
a common place for wheel well rust to start.
