The viggen std filter box intake is not from behind the fog light even though it may seem this way. The airbox intake loops around into resonator box which is located ~under the filter box. The resonator box does have a 0.5m long pipe connected to it which mouth is inside the wheel well. Remove your blinker and look inside for detailed view.
What comes to the flow capasity of the std filter and the whole configuration there is now need to due any upgrading if you're not pushing more than 300hp or so. The whole std airbox setup does flow 220g/s with a 0.1bar pressrue drop. Based on this I dont see any need to due anything to a perfectly fine working solution. The only thing you need to worry about is to change the filter more often than what saab recommends.
