Quaife lists their 5J1 for the 94/95 9000 boxes and the model 6J1 for the 96/98 boxes. The ring gear mounted differently in the 96 boxes so the differential had to be changed. I think you could could use a 5J1 in a 96 box but you would have to get the proper ring gear.
Rob at Scanwest knows all the ins and out and compatability issues with LSD in 9000/9-3 ect.
I currently have three Quaife units, a 5J1 in my 9000 Aero ( about to get a super low 4.45 final drive as part of a rebuild) a 8J1 in my Vyggen box and a 8J1 in a 9-5 that I recently sold. No modified Saab should be without one.
