I love these types of debates....They are so subjective. In example, Your Honda had an all aluminum engine that sounded different than another engine that had an Iron block. Ok...If you were to build the identical engine from two different materials..aluminum..not aluminium and iron, the only difference is to allow for material strength changes they would sound the same.
I have conducted numerous acoustic tests down to three millionths of a second to determine sound/feel of objects at impact with identical designs using different materials with no appreciable differences. I will say there is a perception issue. If anything...304 stainless should be quieter than steel as it has a lower resonance.
This should add to the debate...respectfully, of course.
