after looking at the 'off the shelf' exhaust options, I opted to go the hot rodder route and have my own built. I thought about sourcing parts here and there then having it all put together somewhere, but who needs the hassle to save a hundred bucks, and if something goes wrong, who do you call? ghostbusters?

Some research in the San Diego area led me to Jack's Mufflers, 21st & University. I could tell from the phone conversation that this was my guy, and when I pulled up, the sight of a '64 vette, a custom '46 Chev truck, and several other rods/muscle cars confirmed that I was in the right spot. Larry the owner/manager was very helpful...basically he confirmed what I wanted to do.

Sooo, after splicing in the 3" tubing right after the bend ( i know, reusing the stock first 6" of the downpipe cost me a couple HP, but that is a pretty tricky bend AND mounting an O2 sensor...

The whole thing turned out very clean looking. I went ahead and used a 3" flex joint as well, that was more expensive than the muffler (Dynomax).

Street legal too, went ahead with a 3" high flow catalyst.

All I can say is the new exhaust looks great, must have lost 20 lbs in extra weight over the stock system, and sounds nice too. Just a little tone at idle, not even noticeable during normal driving, stomping on the gas wakes things up a little though.

GREATLY improved mid-range and top-end power. With the stock exhaust, more rev's equaled.....more revs, not necessarily more power. I never bump my car into the redline, but it pulls hard all the way to ~6K.

Woo hoo, now then...what's next? :D
