Jak , sorry my responses to your posts take so long , but I've been learning a lot about the car in the last few weeks in order to figure what to do while saving money ( 88 spg ) . Through my tests , others tests and work and your advice it seems that the engine is combustimg efficiently enough . A state certifide emissions tech ( the guy that can help me get a waiver if it won't pass , not the guy who does the test and then gives me the sticker ) said the O2 sensor is a little slow but functioning well enough . He also said everything else was alright and the car was running efficiently but the cat was not up to snuff and would make the difference to pass emissions if replaced . I thought about this and remembered what you said about water knocking carbon off the cat . I was afraid to try the water because I thought I might not do it quite right and damage the engine . Is there some risk involved in this , which manifold or throttle body vacuum line is best to use and is it best or even necessary to run the water through while driving down the highway as another helpfull person on this board suggested ? By the way my O2 and test socket tests produced .5v steady and 12v steady respectively . The tech said that the voltage swings are there but that its such a small or quick voltage change that my diital or analog meters are not sensitive enough to pick it up . Does this sound correct ? Thank you so much in advance for help if you have time , John .
