Viggen axles upgraded and track feedback Posted by MTAERO [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just finished the axle replacement and refreshed several parts while things were apart. I still have the track tires and wheels (OZ Racing Super Laggero) on the car and I had removed the backs of the rear seats and seat belt mounts in rear and the spare ect for the track day.
I just weighed the car at 2850 lbs.
This surprised me somewhat. but it all adds up.
Rear seat stuff - 65lbs
wheels and tires 40 lbs less than street tire setup
The AP are lighter than my Aero brakes so some savings there over stock Viggen
I'm looking at some seats for next year and a lightweight relocated battery plus a few small weight saving things, target 2700 lbs.
That's with full interior except for rear seats.
I might get some argument but the 300 lbs is equivalent to another 40 hp and an inch more rubber on the track.
I think the steering needs two more things
1. spherical bearings in the strut mount, the steering arm mounts so close to the top of that strut that it magnifies any give in the mount.
2. A brace to keep this top mount in place. (I am not usually a big proponent of strut braces just for chasis flex since these cars are basically noodles) this would be a mod for steering consideration only.
I am also looking at cutting the lever that mounts to the strut for the steering arm and shortening it about .5 inch to increase steering ratio.
Another side light, with the 9000 Aero Exaust housing (6cm2) on the stock Viggen turbo I noticed a significant reduction in underhood temperatures. I'm not sure you would notice this with a bigger compressor wheel fitted.
