Larger IC pipes vs the big bar IC, Plus the head work Posted by Inga [Email] (#2994) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Inga) on Mon, 26 Sep 2005 10:13:09 In Reply to: Re: Results of ten row intercooler & larger diam. pipes, kooch, Sun, 25 Sep 2005 14:37:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I did the comparison on the big bar OEM ic vs the small bar OEM IC. At the time, all I had was the lager or later style IC pipe. (I got rid of the cast pipe ASAP)(Well when I heard about them anyway. I've had the car some 13 yrs now)
Anyway, after installing the big bar IC I found zero change in feel of the car. I shortly thereafter went with the 9K IC so I tried to give the IC to a buddy of mine. He too has a 85 900t. He also found the big bar to be pointless and removed it. (Course he thought I was trying to slow his car down. (Rivaling buddies.)
To speak about the head work, ouch I went over board. I took an 85 head, and 91 2.1 intake cam, 2.1 intake manifold. Took it to a custom shop and had it jucied up. First went and tore down the head and re built it. Installed new brass valve guides and triple cut the valves. (Plus of course re surfaced it too) Afterward I went to town and ported the head out and then matched it to the intake manifold and also the exhaust manifold. Sidenote: While the head was being rebuilt I smoothed out the intake manifold runners as much as I could. People have come back and told me I shouldn't have done that. they say the "roughness" helps to mix the fuel into the air. I can't see how this helps. The injectors almost point right into the valve openings. How can the fuel be mixed if it only has a nano sec before entering the engine. I could understand how smoothing out the head might hurt, But tough crap on that one. I opened it up.
Still waiting on the turbo from SD. They told me the red series turbos are on back order from Garret. (The parts for it)
I'll keep ya'll posted on all the results on the head work and all.
