I need some advice from the collective wisdome of the group. These may be related or may be separate items. 1988 900 Turbo Convertible 16v with 130,000 mi., Stage II APC, 3" exhaust, 30 lb/hr injectors, 3.0 bar FPR, with and without Stage I chip on ECU, and swapping whole ECU. 1988 has liquid cooled turbo.
First: I noticed low boost. Did the Chip/ECU swap, adjusted timing, adjusted mixture on AMM. No change to boost.
Second: yesterday the car made a repetitive "clunk" when driving over 20 mph, with any load on the engine. No noise when decelerating, or with vacuum about 19. Noise is about 1 second period, and doesn't seem to be directly related to engine speed, although I can't say for sure because I'm driving "low load." It doesn't sound like a rod to me. Might be a pinion gear?
Third: while looking for things that go "clunk" I noticed anitifreeze on the engine, right side, front. No obvious leaks, and the reservoir was only down a little.
I can imagine anything from three separate problems the worst of which is a transmission (clunk, failed because I've been driving hard trying to test boost) and general hoses, and some electronics or injection malfunction, to maybe a water pump (clunk plus antifreeze) to maybe the liquid cooled turbo (could this account for all of: clunk, leak and low boost).
Comments? Predictions?
