One is that the weather here in the UK has been pretty fabulous all summer and I haven't had a proper chance to find out how they like wet roads. That problem is now being resolved as autumn kicks in.
The other is that I'm driving my van almost all the time (for work). Have only put on five thousand Saab miles in eight months. But I did get one tremendous two-hour cross-country drive back from the Goodwood Revival Meeting in September, when all the traffic mysteriously disappeared, and I was seriously impressed by the dry-road grip on winding country roads.
I have to say the S-03s are rather undramatic, because they just hang on. I wish I'd tried them with my Abbott springs/Konis on the old car, because that suspension was so stiff and you could scream through roundabouts putting on power whenever you liked and sort of powering it through in a sideways fashion. This new one, albeit Aero-spec, is a bit more prone to roll about, but I'm happy overall because it's quite a refined ride (for a 9000, anyway).
These tyres are quiet, too, which goes with the ur-limo feel I'm aiming for in the '97.
I think I have the pressures set a little high, at my normal 36½ psi - think I'll try 35, because the sidewalls are much stiffer than the F1 GS-D3s I used to have so I don't have to compensate for floppy steering response. The car sometimes feels as if it's on tip-toes and slightly lower pressures will help. Certainly the steering is very light and precise.
Only real issue is a tad too much understeer, despite adding poly bushes to the rear bar but rubber to the front, as per conventional wisdom. I'm toying with the idea of a stiffer rear anti-roll bar but don't want to ruin the ride.
Suddenly realised this is my sixth Saab - must be stuck in a rut.
