I think I know that friend of yours with the Sonett and broken brake line...

The other thing to add to Kary's post is PREVENTION. The rockers are usually the first to go and they can rust from the inside. Many owners drill several 1/2 inch holes along the inside of the rocker. They then use their rust prevention material of choice to spray in the holes. I've used oil for years on my '73 Sonett and it's totally solid 20 years after new rockers were welded in place. I have a 1 quart spray cup with a wand that I can stick in the holes and spray all around. Then use plugs to cover the holes. You can even drill one in each end.

And as Kary said, once you have a new panel welded in, you have to really get at the welded seams with rust preventative stuff of your choice.
