Thanks John, for the information.
I had actually waded through the schematics for 15 minutes at the dealer before actually finding the part... It was basically shown along with the internals.
So, in summary, the plastic evil piece that should be metal (and as John points out, was originally metal) is:
Freewheel control shaft
saab Part # 7104854
