Show me your Sonett III’s Lumbar Support Cushions!!
I am finally getting my 1974 Sonett III seats re-upholstered.
As recommended by many persons, I will be using Naugahyde Expressions EX-254 (saddle color) as the primary vinyl covering. It is not as easy to find the corduroy fabric in the original color but my upholsterer did find a good substitute. I had gathered about 18 different fabric samples from around the country and Turkey but none were like the original. Attached are two photos. One is a photo that Peter Carson posted a few years ago of a seat that is exceptionally well-done. The other photo shows the Naugahyde EX-254 vinyl and the fabric that my upholsterer found that will be used in the center of the seats. (I don’t know the supplier yet but when I find out I will post information)
Yes, the fabric show is sewn incorrectly (in the wrong direction (my upholsterer did it in literally 45 seconds and then I said it is going the wrong way! The black thread will also not be used - it was in the sewing machine and handy)
One thing I don’t have is an original Lumbar Support Cushion to guide a reconstruction of them. (My car did come with a very poor DIY attempt at duplicating them). Of particular interest is the material used for the cushion “track” and now the cushion is attached to the “track.” I know at least one person mentioned that dyed twill tape was used for the “track.”
Any photos or descriptions that you can supply of the Lumbar Support Cushion and the back of it especially as well as of the “track” would be appreciated.
Dimensions of the cushion and general shape of the cushion would be helpful too.
Thank you for your input.
