I welded a new, rear floor pan into my 72 with out removing the body.
But you are correct. To do the best work, body removal will help.

My service manual has disassembly of body Section 810-2
1 Disconnect battery cable from the battery.
2 Remove the hood See section 820
3 Remove the side and rear linings of the luggage compartment. Remove the opening side windows, remove the weather strip and unfasten the side linings.
4 Lift out the insolator sheets in the rear. Remove the rear window lock. Remove the stay ( 2 screws towards the body and 1 screw in the lower edge).
Note: Mark the position of the lower screw in the rectangular hole in the stay.
5 Bend up the locking tab and open up the cable harness jointing sleeve on the rear of the wheel house. Detach the two earth cables from the floor panel.
6 Back off and remove the nuts at the rear edge of the rear wheel houses above the silencers, one on each side.
7 Remove the steel strip holding the body to the body frame underneath at the rear ( 6 screws)
8 Remove the tank cap and the rubber ring and back off the four screws holding the filler pipe.
9 Remove the rear window by unscrewing the four screws at the roll over bar.
10 Remove the upper part of the weather strip for the aperatures of doors.
11 Remove the striker plates for the door locks.
12 a) Drill out the pop rivets on the rear door pillars
b) Drill out the rivets holding the side window frame to the body frame.
c) Drill out the three upper most pop rivets for the cover plates at the front door pillars.

13 Back off and remove the screws in the front edge of the rear wheel house, one on each side.
14 Back off and remove the twelve screws round the front body attacment to the dash panel. The cover of the heater box must be removed.
15 Release the instrument panel; see section 850
Pull it out so the support plates for the instrument panel are uncovered.
Back off and remove the screws holding the windshield pillars to the dash panel ( one on each side)

16 Pry loose the linkage between the windshield wiper motor and the wiper mechanism.
17 Cut away the sealing compound between the body and the chassis in the rear wheel houses, using a sharp knife.

18 Lift the body off, upwards and rearwards.

Simple , eh?
Good Luck!
