The kinked vent tube thing is one possibility, but I don't think it's ever going to be as easy to dump fuel into a Sonett as into a Chevy pickup, for instance (fortunately, you don't NEED to dump fuel into a Sonett nearly as often!)

My guess is that this is mostly because the fuel tank is SO close to the filler neck that just the normal sloshing from the gas going in is enough to send pressure waves up the neck and trip the shutoff in the pump nozzle.

If you find a nozzle that you can lock at a really small flow rate, it'll actually fill up pretty quickly -- the problem I have is that most of the nozzles in my area only lock at rates ranging from "gusher" to "tsunami" (for the convenience of wazoos who need to fill up their Hummer H2s every six or eight blocks, I assume.)

Note: "Burping" the tank by bouncing against the side of the car as you fill sometimes helps, but it looks even weirder than using an extra nozzle.
