Last summer I was successful in rebuilding the sending unit in my 69 Sonett by carefully cleaning off the rust and crud, then cleaning and using POR 15 metal etch and painting with POR 15, then carefully reassembling it. I didn't know if painting it was the right thing to do, but felt it would work. Just recently I had a clogged fuel line and in trouble shooting I removed the sending unit to look in the tank. The sending unit looked as good as the day I put it in and has worked fine for the last year. Also the tank was cleaned and coated using a POR 15 kit and looks great after a year also. If your not up to doing this work yourself Bud Clark in California rebuilds them. Jack Ashcraft sells new ones, but the new ones don't read correctly with the stock gage. They can be used together, but will not be accurate. I would learn how much the gage is off with the new sending unit rather than add the matching gage. A sending unit from a Sonett lll should work also.
