If this were a Weber, I'd say your problem is that the "idle" jet is too small (assuming you've checked that the carb is clean, timing is OK, etc.) The transition circuit in a Weber actually gets its fuel from the idle jet, so a really common drivability headache with those is that the car runs OK at idle and at WOT but has a stumble in the 2000-3000 rpm range. You think it can't be the idle jet because the idle is fine, but the actual problem is that this jet also provides fuel to the transition system, and that's what provides fuel at moderate RPM -- so if it goes lean before the main circuit kicks in, you get exactly this kind of behavior.
Who knows, maybe a Solex is set up the same way -- I don't have a diagram for it, but if you do, take a look.
The real question in my mind is what you're going to do about it! If you do need different jets, I don't think you can just call up an online carb vendor and order Solex jets of whatever size, the way you can with Webers.
Good luck, though... and remember, "90% of all carb problems are really ignition problems," so don't drive yourself crazy chasing your tail on this until you're sure all the ignition stuff is up to snuff.
