Hi,

Slave: get a rebuild kit. You can easily take the whole thing out and do a rebuild on the bench in about a 1/2 hour. The usual independent vendors have the rebuild kits. IT's easy to refill and bleed.

Then see if the sysem works. The master is a real bear to get out of the car with the engine in--don't fix it unless the slave is sure to be OK. It problems persist, search the Sonett and Vintage bulletin board sites for how it's done. The rebuild kits are trickier for the master, sicne there are several variants of the clutch master on Sonetts. You can give up and send it to one of the national rebuilders such as white post or apple.

I'd look at the jets and the linkage of the carb with the air cleaner off to see if the carb is really dirty or plugged. The Haynes or Chilton manual will show you where the jets are. Spray in some carb cleaner. My bet is you have a vacuum leak or the accelerator valve diaphragm is perforated. On my Sonett, I did this, rebuilt the carb three times, then figured out it was an ignition problem--confirming sage advice on this board!

If the temp sensor moves visibly, it ain't the water temperature, it's electric! The water temperature can't change that fast, so go after the sensor wiring. Roll the fuses in their holders. Get some test clips and one of those awl-type electric system testers. Try establishing a second ground to the gauge and see if it settles down. Try rewiring it altogether temporarily.

On the air bubble idea, yes air bubbles are common, so search the board for how to get rid of the bubbles. It's not what I'd first suspect .On another possibility, have you checked the water pump for erosion--again, check the boards for info on how this happens and how to fix it--it dramatically improves water flow when it's fixed.

Those two manuals and targeted searches of the two boards should get you yourt answers in detail.
