Bill, your attraction to Sonetts sounds very similar to me. I spent a year in Iraq and when I got back to the states, I wanted to buy a car to restore/play with. I was looking for a Camaro or a Firebird when I came across a 1973 Sonett. I knew what these cars were, but from the first time I had seen one back in the late seventies, I had never seen another. I bought the car and fell in love with that old girl!! Fun to drive and an attention-getter like crazy. I then had the Sonett shipped to Italy where I am stationed. This will give you an idea of the head-turning this car gets: I also own a Porsche 911, guards red, a very sharp car. That car doesnt turn heads like the Sonett however. I also test drove a Ferrari in a city called Modena. That car got some looks, but still the Sonett beat that car too!!! (it was a 1982 Mondial Coupe by the way) The Italians think the Sonett is very cool!!! And I have yet to see another anywhere in Europe (I know they are there, but very rare I guess is my point)

I am currently in Afghanistan and during my time here I have been shopping for parts for my Sonett. I have noticed in almost a year of looking since I have been here, the number of Sonetts and parts on ebay and here on Saabnet seems to have decreased. A further testament to its rareness.

I say find yourself a good Sonett and enjoy that car. It is a very nice little ride and you will be driving a rarity sure to turn some heads!!!
