Is this the 2-bbl progressive carb that the factory used on the European 95/96 models 1977 and later? If it came out of a Swedish scrapyard, it probably is. You can tell it's progressive (rather than synchronous) if only one barrel starts to open as you turn the throttle linkage. You have to turn the linkage about two-thirds of the way (where it will hit a spring and get stiffer) before the second barrel opens.

If that's the carb, I think the model designation is 34/34 PSIT. There were a couple of minor variations, which should be covered in a factory service manual for 95/96 that covers the "1977b" and later models.

Finding a rebuild kit for it is going to be tough -- I've tried! In the US, you won't find a listing for a rebuild kit under SAAB. The Opel Manta with 1.9-liter engine used a similar carb, and I think some versions of the Opel GT did also. I've ordered both of these kits and they were pretty close, but some of the gaskets were a different shape and had to be trimmed. Your best bet might be to ask your cool German guy to order you a late-model SAAB carb kit from a European vendor -- there were enough 1977 and later V4s sold over there that maintenance parts are more available.

Will it fit a Sonett? Yes, but you've got to do some stuff such as convert it to manual choke and cut off the top of the vacuum pulldown chamber. I found a webpage that describes what somebody did to make it work -- see link below.
